Justin Jacobs
Pianist, Teacher, Accompanist, Music Director

I currently offer online lessons using Zoom.
I am very comfortable teaching online to students of all levels (including beginners), and I find it to be highly successful and satisfying.
I have a professional set-up, with a reliable and fast internet connection. I teach with side and overhead cameras so that students can see my hands from various angles as I demonstrate at my piano. If needed, I use a virtual keyboard display on the screen to assist students see the notes I'm playing even more clearly.

In order that the sound be of the highest possible quality, I teach on a digital piano which is connected to a computer via audio interface. I use a microphone to ensure that my voice is always audible, even while I'm playing.

As well as teaching piano, I teach theory of music online up to Grade 6 level, using the AMEB syllabus curriculum.
Online lessons offer certain advantages over face-to-face lessons, including:

-
CoVid-safety: no need for masks or physical distancing. With in-person lessons, what can be seen by student or teacher from a safe distance of 2 metres anyway?
-
not having to constantly sanitise the piano keyboard, bench and room;
-
seated at my own piano, I am able to demonstrate constantly for the student, rather than asking the student to stand up from the piano bench;
-
no travelling necessary. This saves a great deal of time that can be better used for other activities. Lessons happen in the comfort and convenience of your home;
-
parents do not have to sit and wait during the lesson, and there's no need to bring along small children who cannot be left at home;
-
a more flexible time schedule;
-
lessons can be recorded and viewed again later by the student;
-
the ability to make summary videos as a reminder of what was covered in the lesson.
